Sewing Diary

I'm back again with another make perfect for the summer. I originally design a simple loose crop top to wear with a maxi skirt but because I cut it too small I had a dilemma which i quickly resolved with a bit of lace and chiffon. To make the side bigger I came up with the idea to add a strip of lace down both sides. This not only made the top the correct shape/fit but made it look quite nice. I added black chiffon behind the lace so it wasn't see through. This top looks really cute on and really nice with a maxi skirt. So what do you think??

Sewing Diary

A day before Fasting began I thought I'd pop into my local haberdashery shop (fabric shop) to pick up some bits of fabric/patterns so I could make some stuff during this month to pass the time. I tend to go to the sale basket where they have leftover fabric from the rolls. I found a piece of black chiffon which was just enough to make myself a maxi skirt. I got 2 and a half meters for around £3 which is pretty good, the elastic I got 2m for £1 which is really good. It was a bit fiddly to make because chiffon is a thin fabric and just moves alot as anyone would know who's ever sewn chiffon. But after sewing it all together I was pretty pleased with my skirt. Having a maxi skirt that actually fits you both waist and length is great. Making your own clothes really does save a bit of money, in total this skirt costs around £3.02 which is pretty good for a chiffon maxi skirt. I have a back maxi skirt anyway so there wasn't any point making an underskirt. I thought this way I could even put it with coloured or patterned skirts to create something quite cool. Chiffon isn't the easiest of fabrics to use but its one of my favorites to wear, especially as the sun is finally coming out.
What do you think about making your own clothes?

New Clothes

So I went out to get my sister a birthday present and came back with a few things with myself. I got the cheetah print top, blue/black dress and white dress all for under £20 because there was a 70% off sale at risky. There was a few nice things at small prices, the top I got for £3 which is a bargain. Its great to wear when its really hot especially as its not see through. The blue dress I though was really cool with a cross over strap design and pockets at the front. I also got a white summer dress which is really cute and nice to wear when its hot. I had a little look in the charity shop and found the blue floral summer dress which is really pretty. That was around £4 which is good. Its good for me to have clothes that aren't black especially as the weather is heating up. Finally I got myself a super cute pair of jelly shoes, they were £15 which I think is pretty good. Their wedged and has a little bow at the top. I haven't quite broke into them yet so they hurt a little but the first 5 minutes of wearing them is really comfortable. The colour I think is really nice, it will go with alot of things. So yeah, this is what happens when you take me to buy something for my sisters birthday.

Fashion show 2013

On the 3/7/2013 my school held its annual fashion show for the year 11 - 13 students to show off their work. These two dresses where designed and made by me. I got my sister(top right) to model my dress because I thought it'd be cute when we all come out with our designers/models. I for whatever reason modeled my dress again this year and as scary as it was I have to say It was great fun. The support there was lovely with everyone clapping as you walk down (alone). Two of my friends came to see the fashion show for the first time which was really nice. The purple dress was from my opulence project took a while to make as the yellow printed shapes was hand cut out and ironed on. The skirt also took a while to figure out how to create because its an original shape, the photos don't exactly show it well. The dress that my sisters wearing was inspired by the circus, her headscarf covers the acrobat feature piece. The print of the fabric was designed by me and printed in school thanks to our amazing digital printer. Making these two dresses were stressful but really good fun. I am so pleased with how the two has turned out. After all the hard work over the last couple of years my last year at school went with a showstopping catwalk. The garments by all the students where incredible. I cant believe this is my last fashion show at school. I am really going to miss my fashion class, we have lots of fun and get on really well.

LASTING COLOUR GEL EYELINER

Hi you lot, the last two weeks have been absolutely hectic with the final deadline of fashion being yesterday, I finally finished all my work including my 2 garments for our fashion show. However I am free with a few post already in my head. This post is a review of Collection 2000's gel eyeliner which I purchased for £4.99 at superdrugs. This was the one I picked up after being thrown back a bit by maybelline's  price for their gel liner. I had wanted to try this type of eyeliner after watching makeup tutorials where a few people would use this and show a great finish. The ones in these pots actually look better than the all in one types with the brush attached but that's just my opinion I haven't actually tried them. For the price I thought the amount of eyeliner in the pot was decent, it looks like its going to last me a bit. At first I was like what's the point in the small brush which is 5cm but actually I was proven wrong and I could easily use it to apply the eyeliner. Although I can use the small brush I'm going to but a proper eyeliner brush. Finally moving onto the gel eyeliner itself, It really good especially for the price. You don't need a lot for a dark line on your eyelids, the pigment is intense. The quality is nice, it glides on easily and doesn't looks so wet like pictures I've seen. It lasted the whole time I was wearing it which is probably why its called "lasting colour gel eyeliner". I also used it as a cream eye shadow for my prom make up and I was really please with how dark it came out. And unlike some eye shadows, using this as an eye shadow means it wont fade or crease. I would definitely recommend this product as I was really pleased with it.
What do you think of gel eyeliners?

Canvas gifts

I have been studying fashion for 4 years now at school/6form and this year is my last. My fashion teachers are beyond amazing, aswell as getting them a group gift I wanted to make them something so it would be really personal. With them being fashion teachers I came up with the Idea of these fashion quote pictures on canvas'. I am so happy with the way they've turned out I think they will love them. It was a bit scary painting on canvas for the first time because you cant really make any mistakes but I got there in the end. I'll give it to them in a few weeks and I really cant wait. I think this is a great idea as a gift; its so personal and something that will last for a while.

So, what do you think?

Barry M Vs. Primark

Yes, I am back to the blogging world after just not feeling it for a couple of months. But that only means a bombarding load of reviews, buys and other posts. So I though i'd comeback with a review of two products, Barry M's glitter dust (4,silver) and Primarks glitter eye shadow palette. So I went out in search of a decently priced  glitter eye shadow and stumbled upon Primarks glitter palette which was £2 so I thought I might aswell try it out. The box contains 10 different coloured glitter gel based eye shadow  which just means the gel helps the glitter to stay in place. I think the range of colours are just stunning. The colour that im trying in the picture is gold dust which probably wasn't the best colour to use as im reviewing it and taking pictures of it. I have to apologize for the pictures, it was hard to get a picture that showed the eye shadows well. Because it is gel based it you don't get as much glitter on the eye-lids but that necessarily isn't a bad thing. But then again i didn't use to much when trying it out for this review. I think if you were to use half of one colour on one eye it would be more glittery. I found with this product that it did create crease lines but there's only so much you can do. Compared to the Barry M glitter dust is doesn't make any mess which is really good. If you want a subtle glitter eye make up this will work well. For £2 I think this product is fab and I would recommend it to people new to glitter. Now to Barry M glitter dust in pale silver(4) which is £4.59 at superdrugs. At first I thought the price was a bit much for this pot of glitter but then after some thinking it seemed good, considering how much you actually use at a time. In the picture I only put a bit on my finger once and that's how much it came out. Because this product is just glitter based your going to get more glitter on your eyelids which is a good thing. The only thing is it just gets all over your face/hands/eyelashes which is a bit annoying. As you can see it is really sparkly just as it says on the lid. I really liked this colour, its very bold which is what I wanted. As you may know it comes in a range of beautiful colors. Overall I like both products, they both have pros and cons but the pros over way the cons for me.

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think of them?

Having a go at digital fashion illustration

Ok so yesterday I had a go at digital fashion illustrations because I think they look so cool and its another creative skill. I drew my design first and then scanned it into the computer and coloured it using Photoshop. I was pretty please with what I had achieved. The one i did first was the one on the left and then the one on the left was done today. I definitely think with practice I will get better. Maybe not as good as the ones other people do but I'll have my own style. Before someone asks if I drew the floral pattern no Its a picture I layered it underneath to create that look. It does take more time to Photoshop it than colour it in by hand but I think it looks pretty cool and a little professional.

So do you digital illustrate? Have any tips?

RIP Selena Quintantilla

Ok So I was meant to blog this yesterday as it was her birthday but I completely forgot and only just remembered. Selena was a 90's American Latin Singer performing with her band including her brother, sister and future partner. She was such an inspiration and still to this day her music still lives on. I knew of her from watching biographical film which starred J Lo. The film documents her rise to fame starting from when she was a young girl. Its defo a great film to watch. She was named "top Latin Artist of the 90's" and "Best Selling Latin Artist of the Decade" as well as having 14 top 10 singles. Even at a young age it was like outfits that she wore that caught my eye. Some of which I believe she designed herself which is really cool. Boy did she rock her sparkly bralets. There's one part in the film that I love where shes performing this one song but in several locations and wearing a different outfits. So as well as a performing Icon she was a fashion Icon. In actual fact it was her that got me into dark brown lipsticks. I always thought it looked great on her and so I went and bought myself one. From what I know Selena only got to do 2 English songs before she died April 18th 1971 ages 23. Even though I don't understand a word of Spanish I still love listening to her songs. I remember when I was younger and I would attempt to sing her songs in Spanish obviously singing it all wrong. She was beautiful and talented as it saddens me to think she had lot more to give. But I know she would be happy to know that still her music lives on now 18 years after her death.

RIP Selena Quintanilla x

If you want to watch the film I've found a link that works for me, if not type 'Selena the movie 1997'

MY SEWING DIARIES

So I actually finished the dress a couple of weeks ago but just kept on forgetting to post  about it. Its just slightly different from the initial designs which had sleeves but I still think its cute. I designed the sleeves too tight so I could literally not move my arms up so I just removed them. Its my first dress that ive made by myself so I am please with myself. I think the fabric with the pockets at the front is really cute. Its gonna be weird wearing it because I know its not from the shop. On and off it took around 12 hours designing and putting everything together. I showed my nanny the dress and she really liked it. My auntie was also shocked that I made it which did make me pretty happy. My next step is to master the sleeves. I've seen a pattern for a bralet which I think will be really cool to make and maybe design into a dress.
So what do you think?

Whats new in my wardrobe?

So today I went shopping with the family and got a couple of pieces for myself. I didn't get a lot of things but one thing that I did get made me a very happy girl SPARKLY SHOES. My sister picked them up and I just fell in love with them and had to try them on. They were 3 and a half and i'm a 4 but they fit perfectly which made me super happy. They're Guess but I got them for around £40 in TKMaxx which is a super bargain as their shoes are like £100. I don't particularly like going in TKMaxx as its like this one big cluttered store but when you do find something you like and in your size it's great because you know you're getting the best deal for it. The picture doesn't really show how sparkly they are but they're this lilac/blue colour depending on the light. I also got a lace top which I'm planning to wear under short sleeve dresses or on its own seeing as its not one of those bodysuits one. I stocked up on hoodies to so I can wear with my leather jacket seeing as its still really cold for what is apparently spring. I got a burgundy and a dark grey one. I just picked them up from primark I think for £8 which is pretty good. And then finally the last thing I (my mum) bought was this really nice crochet summer top from Select. Hopefully if the sun comes out this year I can wear it with a little t-shirt and maxi skirt.

So like my shoes? (can you tell i love them). Bought any summer clothes yet?

Sewing Diaries

Ok so some of you may know I am starting to design and sew at home. I've done it in school but with already made templates and teachers so I thought i'd challenge myself with making my own clothes. Last Sunday I spent a good couple of hours taking measurements and designing the paper pattern for my dress. Its hopefully going to be a simple dress which is elasticated at the waist. I got this really cute fabric which is patchwork with cute floral and checked patterns. Making it it a little bit scary because it is your first one and you just imagine everything's going to go wrong, but so far its going good. At this stage i've cut out all my pieces and sewed around the edges so they dont fray (when the fabric comes un-done). Tomorrow I will probably sew it all up and add pockets if the design turns up ok. Its a real fun hobby that I can do in my spare time and actually perfect. Hopefully the more I learn myself the bigger designs I can do, maybe make my own prom dress. Actually my mum did say that I could make my own wedding dress as it would cost less, not that I would have anything to do then haha.
So you thought about picking up a hobby? Do you do sewing?

DaisyStreet.co.uk

Daisy Street Logo
Hello my lovely readers hope you are all well. Ok so I literally found this website like 15 minutes ago and thought it was so amazing that I would write about it now. I saw their logo and was draw to it because of the pretty colours and pictures. I am so happy I clicked it because its such an amazing site. It offers trendy, almost urban looking clothes at ridiculously good prices, I was so shocked when I looked at how much the pieces cost. I am only going to pick out my top 3 pieces if not I'll end up writing about everything on their website.

DAPHNE CAP SLEEVE CARTOON PRINT MINI DRESS
Ok so this dress just fabulous, if you click on the link and zoom in
you will see that the dress is covered in loads of random images like
cards, butterflies faces. This is just a stunning statement piece to wear.
Its hard to explain exactly why but there's something about this print
that makes it youthful and urban. The back has a cut-out circle detailing
which is nice for those summer days. I just love how the dress is very
artistic in the drawings an the actual print. This is look would do perfectly
with some killer ankle boots. And what makes me love this dress even
more is the fact that its £13.99... yes thats not a typo. I've seen simple
tops that cost more than this dress. Honestly, I expected this dress top be
£30 maybe £40.

AVA PINAFORE DRESS IN BLACK

Now for the second dress that caught my eye. This dress
is a bit more peppy but still really cute. I would style it with
a crop top , like in the image to get that cute school girl look.
This is such a cute summer look. Wear it with ankle boots
or even some trainers. This dress costs £14.99 again a pretty
good price.

POPPY STRAP PLATFORM WEDGES IN PINK SUEDE
Aswell and clothes Daisystreet also sells shoes and accessors. This was on the first page so I thought i'd add it on here. Personally I think these shoes just scream out summer. Its a stunning shade of pink its not quite pastel but its not too in your face. I think the material makes it very girly and pretty aswell as the buckle. These come in a couple of colours so you'll have to check the site. What you could wear these shoes with is just endless. I hear you're asking me how much they are, well they are £24.99 which I think personally is a very good price for them.

So what do you think of daisystreet.co.uk so far?

My Design Diary

Just a small post about me for anyone who cares. I was so excited about my new hobby that I thought i'd blog about it. Last weekend I got my very own sewing machine, kindly given by my nan. It was a very cute moment her showing me how to use it. Im still waiting for some bits and bobs to arrive so I can start sewing and get making some clothes. Today I went to my fabric shop to get something for my dress in school and also to get some fabric for myself. I walked in and in the  basket with 1m off-sets I saw this stunning fabric which is like a velvety lace, I loved the feel of it I just had to buy it. There's enough to make a small top or sleeves to a dress, or a skirt come to think it. There was also the cutest patchwork print fabric which im going to make a dress out of. So expect some dress-making post in the next couple of weeks.
I thought i'd post a picture of my fashion design I did yesterday. Im not gonna lie it looks pretty good considering a couple of months ago I was using templates to draw rather than free-hand. Anyway thats me, i'm super excited and cant get to start making.
So Picked up any new hobbies? Do you do sewing?
